The circular economy in action at DS Smith: Circular designĭS Smith has embedded the circular economy in its core training programmes, training over 700 of its designers and innovators in circular design methods. DS Smith also joined Mondelez for the Foundation’s 2021 Innovation Sprint, exploring possibilities to develop customisable circular packaging solutions for Mondelēz’s co-packaging operations. DS Smith’s sustainability strategy sets several commitments, including scaling its circular economy efforts to tackle the biodiversity crisis. A number of the company’s innovations are featured in the Foundation’s Upstream Innovation guide to packaging solutions. It is based on three principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature., and improving collection systems in urban areas. I am involved in research looking at the implementation of Policy within the School of University, using situational analysis to assess current thinking and pedagogic practice within this area. I am currently researching the implementation of Governmental Policy within the University, using an implementation staircase to track policy from Government through Institution, Management and Academic staff to Students. In January 2009 I enrolled on the Doctoral Programme in Educational Research at Lancaster University. I have held the position of the British Mountaineering Councils official photographer, covering events such as the finals of the World Climbing Championship in Birmingham. Work undertaken includes producing images for literature to promote clients ranging from the Brathey Trust, a youth development initiative to Eversheds business lawyers.
